Yet another beautiful road trip brings us from Namakwaland to the West Coast just above Cape town.
We drive through more and more vineyards – very promising:-)
We are so organized – not stopping at every cellar; we move straight on to the one Taco & Tineke enjoyed so much a couple of months ago. Or so we think; theirs was famous for it’s great port. The one we visit only has one port – but some real nice muscatels. So we take a box of that tasty red one, and for good measures a box of the yummy white also.
We planned to camp in West Coast National Park, but again – no camping facilities. At the entrance they advice us to drive on to Yzerfontein, only about 20 k’s further south. That sounds doable – end supplies us with a totally different camping experience. X-mess Beach Fun for the family - the whole family, babies, grannies, oupas, aunts & uncles included. But still, it’s South Africa, so even if it’s crowded in our opinion, the camping spot is spacey and protected from the neighbours by thick hedges. And compared to Europeans, South Africans are amazingly quiet campers.
Picture: brothers @ our beach, with a view on the village Yzerfontein.
Again a chance to hike. The sandy beaches are separated by rocky patches overgrown with fynbos. Just love the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks!
On Schaapeiland we find a spot where we can see Kaapstad’s famous Tafelberg, about 80 k’s south.
Yeah, game!
Henk & Maud testing the water temperature. That Atlantic Ocean is effin’ cold indeed! Being the one and only real tourist, Henk has to dive in of course. We have proof he did it on video – a very short video haha.
